The Effect of Curing Temperature and Thickness of Polybutyl Methacrylate Siloxane Coatings on the Corrosion Protection of Structural Steel S355

This study aimed to determine the effects of coating thickness and curing temperature on properties a polybutyl methacrylate-siloxane deposited structural steel S355. First, thermal sol as function were investigated using thermogravimetric analysis coupled with mass spectrometry differential scanning calorimetry. After deposition S355 dip-coating process, composition porosity evaluated Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy photothermal beam deflection spectroscopy. In second part, thickness, topography, corrosion studied functions withdrawal rate during deposition. The variously prepared coatings electrochemical impedance measurements in 3.5 wt.% NaCl salt spray testing according ASTM B117 standard. An elevated (at 150 °C) methacrylate siloxane sol-gel impairs greater crosslinking lower porosity, while optimal 4 μm is achieved appropriate obtain homogeneous, defect-free surface. Under these conditions, protection against chloride environment lasting for more than 6 months can be achieved.
